My Students
I am the School Guidance Counselor and Basketball Coach at a Title I elementary school in Brooklyn, NY. Our neighborhood school has a multitude of diverse students from many different cultures and backgrounds.
We recognize that sports is a powerful tool to reach many of our young men and women who are struggling to find their balance and purpose.
Through basketball they can learn sportsmanship, leadership and personal responsibility.
With funding so limited in our school physical education supplies are non-existent. I'm reaching out for help so I can get the materials my children need.
My Project
Our school is only now developing a more expanded physical education opportunities for our students. In particular we are working hard with those young men who are struggling with behavior and academic focus. My experience as a Basketball Coach has shown me the power of organized sports to reach these children and I am currently putting together afterschool programs that combine homework with hoops.
This project requests Wilson Wave and Evolution basketballs which will be used during my physical education classes and Basketball Club.
The Wiffle Ball and Ball sets are for our young women who are just learning about any organized sports. The pinnies will be used by all teams and I'll store the balls in the mesh bags.
