My Project
These books will be great for our 8th Grade Book Clubs! I have chosen books which include a variety of different historical and social issues which include racial and ethnicity issues, immigration issues, physical and mental disability issues, family issues, loss issues and bullying issues. I have also carefully selected books from a range of reading levels to ensure struggling readers' needs are met, as well as readers who are exceeding grade levels! There truly is something for everyone!
What I love most about book clubs is listening to student led discussions!
Students are given a chance to understand, analyze, apply and share insights with one another. This not only encourages dialogue between students, but it also allows students to make similar connections, therefore strengthening classroom community!
What I also value and love about book clubs, is allowing students to pick titles that they feel most excited about. Allowing students to pick books of their interest has turned students who hate reading, into students who opened themselves up to a whole new world and have a changed perspective on reading! This makes me incredibly ecstatic to watch happen before my eyes!
