Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Gone are the days of books being leveled by a letter system. This system not only made it hard for students to learn to read, but it also made it hard for teachers to level books into just right bins. We are now using phonics features to support students in their reading acquisition.
I want my students to find so much empowerment in finding books that they are able to read, that they become hooked.
My goal is to fill bins of books with features like short vowels, long vowels, digraphs, blends and more. This new system will not only help me to support students through their phonics growth, but it will also help my students build stamina as there will be less words that they are unable to read so they will be able to plow through books.
