My Project
My students are ready to dive into a world of Greek mythology, adventure, and relatable characters with the graphic novel adaptation of Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief. This engaging format will support all types of readers, especially reluctant and struggling readers, while helping us build a shared love for reading and critical thinking.
I teach a lively group of upper elementary students who love fast-paced stories, humor, and a good challenge; many of them are visual learners or need extra support with reading stamina, comprehension, and vocabulary.
Graphic novels are an incredible bridge for these readers. They allow students to experience rich storytelling and character development in a format that builds confidence and invites thoughtful discussion.
These books will also support English Language Learners and students with reading challenges by providing strong visual context and scaffolded comprehension. A shared book study builds community and inspires conversation and Percy Jackson is the perfect gateway into reading for so many students. With a graphic novel format, even hesitant readers will feel successful and excited to turn the page.
