My Students
Do you remember when you first realized that you could read? My first graders are so eager to read but they are from a low, social economic background and they need books to have for their home library. Reading is a vital part of a child's life. Books are a gift that can be opened repeatedly.
We are a Title-One school located in Georgia.
I realize that most of our students don't have books at home. My students enjoy reading a variety of books (fiction, nonfiction, folktales, and historical figures). They like to respond to books orally and with written expression. We encourage our students to read with their parents and family members. I want my students to develop tenacity and stamina in reading. The students will read more with the availability of books at home.
My Project
This project will promote lifelong readers and family involvement. Support from the community will bring up the students' morale. This project will increase family reading time, their reading levels, and reading as a hobby. The students will continue to respond to books and work toward their reading goals with this project. The students will become independent readers which will improve their standardized test scores. The students will learn the importance of reading and cherish their gift of reading.
This project will touch the lives of so many students in different ways.
I would love for each of my students to be life long, avid readers, and leave my classroom with foundational skills that will bring them success in the future. This project will provide books for students to start their home library. Books will be a gift that the students will be able to open over and over again. The parents will read to or listen to their child read.
