This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students spend their day learning to read and write. They need examples of what a good book can do. They need to be immersed in rich literature so they can experience love, laughter, joy, sadness, horror, and excitement.

My students are from low income households.

They don't have the experiences that other children from middle income households. They don't go on vacation, travel or experience the world. That's why they need rich and cultivating experiences in the classroom.

My Project

I am requesting books for my students. These books will be read out loud to them and students will be able to read them independently as well. They will be used to engage and immerse them into powerful literature. It will create a love for books and be examples of great literature they can create themselves.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to engage students with literature in the classroom.

Students are more interested in technology and games. However, I believe good book with interesting plots and themes can be just as engaging and stimulating. I want students to love reading as I did when I was a kid. I want a good book to hold their attention as if they we're watching a movie.
