This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"I hate reading!" That is what many of our boys say when we talk about reading. Statistics are showing that nationwide our boys are under performing our girls and, unfortunately, that may be the case at my school. I need high interest books that are on a lower reading level to hook our boys!
My students participate in a dual language model, which means they learn in both English and Spanish during the school day.
The students want so badly to be identified as readers and crave books. They yearn to be able to find the just-right book that they want to read again and again.
My Project
Students will use these items to read during independent reading time! The books will join my library so that students have access to them as they need. They will be able to read for fun so that they can identify as readers and be able to state a series that they enjoy reading.
I need books that will catch my students' attention and make them hungry for books!
These books in particular are great for struggling readers because they are on lower reading levels and still very engaging.
