Honoring AANHPI Heritage Month With New Books in Our Library

Help me give my students books that highlight AANHPI stories, heritage, and culture.

My Project

My multilingual Deaf students are amazing! At our Dual Language school, we strive to empower our students as Deaf individuals to be lifelong learners and innovative thinkers with diverse linguistic, ethnic, and cultural identities who are fluent in both American Sign Language and English. I need your help to ensure they have access to the best resources to support their development in biliteracy.

Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month takes place in May; celebrating AANHPI heritage and culture and paying tribute to the contributions of Asian American people in our community. These diverse books, that elevate the experiences of AANHPI characters, will help students learn more about their own culture, language, and heritage, while exploring the things that make them unique!

"As the world becomes smaller and increasingly diverse in its cultures and experiences, it is crucial that all children have access to books that serve as both windows and mirrors. Kids who see their own experiences reflected in books gain self-confidence, while reading about experiences that differ from their own helps kids develop healthy curiosity and empathy." - FirstBook Stories For All Project.
