I think that in order for students to have optimal learning, their space needs to foster formal and informal learning. I want to offer a space (rug & beanbag chairs) for students to be comfortable and be able to relax but also continue their learning in an informal way, including books, conversation with classmates, and personally driven research.
Most of our students are coming from less than ideal home and living situations, if we give them a refugee not only does this allow them to be more successful.
But they will know they have sanctuary here at our school and in my classroom.
