This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a baseball coach at a school which was granted a team for this spring season. We are a new program consisting of 3 schools, from the same neighborhood. We are the only sports program in the city of this kind. We are working to build a well-developed athletic program.
As a newly established program, we have had a lot of purchasing issues.
Our priority was uniforms first which involved buying new uniforms for 5 different sports teams. As a result of this, we had to cut back on equipment purchases and other expenses. There have been times where the head coach of the teams had to purchase equipment, officials, etc. In order for the team to compete. Baseball is a sport that involves a lot of equipment and we are starting to run dry of money. Fortunately through many great people and support, we were able to start a team and buy the required equipment but are still a few items short of completing our dream. Baseball has drawn the biggest number of interested student-athletes and our staff will do whatever it takes to make sure we are fully prepared for the season. We have been able to service a large number of students through our program in a short amount of time and with the addition of baseball, you can count on us dramatically increasing that number.
My Project
We are short a few essential pieces of equipment. We still need a full set of catcher's equipment along with some essential supplies that will allow us to practice harder and better and reach our full potential. Space is limited so the use of tees and hitting tools will allow us to work on hitting when we do not have access to a field. We also need score books for our upcoming season and ball buckets to transport baseballs to fields for practice and games. These pieces of equipment are the tools of our trade that will truly allow us to succeed, get better every day, and build a positive and successful baseball program.
