My Students
Distance learning has been a challenge for both students and teachers. It has been a shift from book resources to full digital materials. My students are not used to completing work, especially math, via a computer.
My students come from a low income community in Philadelphia and some do not have access to appropriate internet to support digital learning.
This hinders their ability to complete assignments online as well as attend virtual teaching sessions.
Some students also learn better from books rather than reading a screen. It has been difficult for them to complete some assignments via the computer instead of paper and pencil. This has been a struggle in their success with digital learning.
My Project
My students ended the 19-20 school year working hard completing digital learning assignments. My students struggled with some of the activities on the computer, including math assignments. Other students did not have appropriate internet access to support virtual learning. Starting the 20-21 school year, I want to be better prepared to support my students during virtual learning.
Some students learn better using paper and pencil than using a computer screen.
This has become a huge struggle with virtual learning. My students do not have access to school textbooks or printed materials to complete their work. This has become a struggle, especially in math. I want to better support them this year by making them homemade workbooks. These workbooks will support the lessons taught virtually.
Homemade workbooks will also support students without proper internet access. Workbooks can be delivered to students' homes so they can continue learning without internet. This will help ensure that all of my students have access to the same materials and lessons.
