My students need more technology in my classroom. I will be able to solve this problem with a Nintendo Wii remote and a Bluetooth adapter.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Konny's classroom raised $161
This project is fully funded
My classroom is set in a semi-rural town in North Carolina. I am part of the Freshmen Academy and teach environmental science. The students in my class are a very diverse group, racially, socioeconomically, and educationally. My goal in the classroom is to make science fun and nurture my students curiosity of their surroundings in science.
Having an interactive white board will give me another piece of technology to use in the classroom. Today's students are less and less able to connect with standard methods of instruction. By using an interactive whiteboard, I will be able teach many of the same lessons with more impact and in a way that better connects with my students.
An interactive whiteboard is a pipe dream of mine. I have seen them at conferences, and am able see tons of applications within a science classroom. The cost of such a whiteboard is well over $2000. This project would allow me to use a Nintendo Wii remote as a infrared sensor to track movement and sync with my projector. This would allow me to have all the benefits of an interactive whiteboard at a fraction of the cost.
Using free software, a Wii remote, and a Bluetooth adapter, I can create my own interactive whiteboard. Please watch the video of the innovator Johnny Lee as he speaks of how his ideas are changing the classroom. You can also Google "Johnny Lee, whiteboard" to see his work and videos of this being demonstrated.
Not only will I use the whiteboard, but I feel as though my students will really be engaged with this technology. One such application that I foresee using the whiteboard with, is when I teach weather. I would like to test students using a nontraditional method. I would project various weather maps on the board. They would act as if they were meteorologists and explain what is happening using their knowledge of weather. Rather than a traditional test, this would be a fun and different way for students to show their knowledge. This would require an interactive whiteboard.
Your donation would make a huge difference in my classroom and how I present information to my students. This would bring technology that is usually out of reach at my school into my class. I am hoping to also inspire my students who don't have a lot of money to be resourceful.
Thank you for your time and donations.
