Homemade Algebra 1 Books From Algebra 2 Students!

My students need markers and blank boards to help them refresh Algebra 1 prerequisite skills for Algebra 2.

My Students

What kind of learning style are you? Visual, auditory, or do you need to touch and create? The visual learning and auditory learning is easy to teach. The kinesthetic learning style requires supplies and manipulative's. These supplies will give us the opportunity to learn in all styles.

I teach a variety of students ranging from freshmen to seniors.

I often try to let my upperclassmen classes create examples and teaching tools for my underclassmen. My students work really hard to learn their Algebra skills. Most of my students are college bound and they realize that the preparation now will make the future easier. Our school is located in an area that was hit really hard by Hurricane Katrina. Although that was many years ago, the psychological effects on our children still linger. Despite all of the local turmoil and unrest, our students strive to be the best they can be.

My Project

I recently ran across the proposed items. I have never done a project using these materials. The main item is a LARGE foam booklet (measuring 18" x 18") with markers to supplement. My idea is to have my upperclassmen make informative booklets for my underclassmen. To start Algebra 2, knowing the Algebra 1 skills are necessary. Instead of the book and worksheet format, I want them to create a colorful and fun 'textbook' for my Algebra 1 students to use. This in turn will be available to my underclassmen and will make learning more fun for them. This will also incorporate cooperative learning and self discovery.

Every person learns best when they are enjoying what they are doing.

I try to find inventive ideas that teach and entertain. Your help will give my students a few days of Algebra FUN instead of Algebra BLAH! Along with the students who will use it initially, these booklets will have a place in my classroom for generations to come.
