My Students
The students come from all walks of life. We are fortunate to have several students come from various cultures and countries throughout the world. Often, our students come without any formal English Language. We are often teaching students who have never had any formal education.
The children of our school are so curious to learn about their new country.
They are not only expected to learn the English Language, but they are also expected to learn the content. It is so important for our children to be able to participate in both, with extra support from their teacher.
My Project
In March, I embarked on a new normal-Distance Learning. Because it was abrupt, I worked at home with my students as best as I could without supplies. I like many other teachers across the world had no time to prepare and no materials to make at home learning engaging. It was tough. I like many other pieced together what I could and got very creative in finding ways to continue learning. I admit, it was not my best teaching, nor was it the best learning for my students. I lacked materials at home that would teach my kids effectively like a whiteboard and document camera that I would have in the normal classroom setting.
My students deserve the best learning at home possible!
Now that we have confirmation of distance learning, my students will be learning from home as well as I will be teaching from home.
The materials I am requesting would allow me as their teacher to provide accessible materials and a learning experience as close as possible to being in school. The whiteboard will allow me to teach Math to my 4th graders as well as modeling for the students. I will be sending home frequent letters using the postage stamps to my students and parents so that they can receive notes of encouragement and regular progress reports directly from me. The document camera and USB port will let me provide my class with reading materials in the online classroom and model reading, math and writing strategies in real time. With all of these materials, my students will have a quality at home distance learning experience that would easily be transferable back into a classroom.
