Home Sweet Classroom

Help me give my students a portable electric stove so they can learn how to prepare healthy meals for themselves. The curtains and Fluorescent Light Filters will help help create a calm, relaxing environment for their classroom!

My Students

I am a Life Skills Support Special Education Teacher of a Public School in Philadelphia, and my students are my amazing little school family. My students require a functional curriculum focused on academics, communication, community, domestic, and vocational skills. My job is to prepare my students for life after school. Weekly we cook/bake and go out for community-based instruction trips to various sites throughout the city. Despite economic struggles and academic barriers that all of my students have, they come to school every day ready to learn and work hard to achieve their daily goals.

My students come from a high poverty area and have limited access to school supplies.

Our school is a school that provides 100% free breakfast and lunch just to give you an idea of the poverty level they come from. Please help me to provide some of the things they need to get started for a successful school year. With your help I can help my students to thrive within my classroom.

My Project

I teach a group of exceptional learners who are all Intellectually disabled. These students all have different educational differences compared to their peers. The school environment involves bright lights from the windows and the classroom lights from above. When students are overstimulated by these lights they often have difficulty concentrating. I am hoping this project will help to make our classroom less stimulating and to have a more of an at home feel.

Having hands on educational games and manipulatives will help to build teamwork within our classroom.
