In my Title I school, the number of children we have that are entering our classrooms without the appropriate skills needed to be successful is growing year after year.
As a 1st grade teacher, my parents are constantly asking for resources to help their children at home. I am convinced that if we give the parents the resources at their fingertips, they will use them!
Take Home Backpacks gives parents the resource they need to foster learning at home. Students will check out and take home various literacy, math & science activity backpacks. The cross-curricular set features 16 different backpacks for kids to take home and share—all filled with fun, hands-on activities that reinforce basic skills, from counting to nutrition.
Each pack features 4 double-sided, write & wipe cards with simple, step-by-step instructions for completing the activities. Plus, there is a delightful paperback book that reinforces and extends the concepts in each pack…and encourages at-home reading! Best of all, each pack comes with all the materials children need to complete the activities—so they couldn’t be easier to use!
The backpacks will be available in English & Spanish based on my classroom population.
Student achievement in our school will be directly affected by these take home backpacks and the activities will encourage family interaction and conversation - a crucial oral language skill that many of our children lack.
