My Students

Imagine living in city where people travel near and far to explore, a city where dreams are made and the most creative come to share and build. In this same city, you and your family are couch-surfing, unable to access quality health care, and living in a food desert even though your parents are working 2-3 jobs to survive all time record high housing prices. Then in a blink of an eye CORONAVIRUS.

Our school is a small community school that that serves those families.

Situated in the heart of the Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood of San Francisco, our school was a safe and consistent place for our families in uncertain times. Our kindergartners come to school every day in a quest for more. They challenge every stereotype about what they should be and how they should act, and they constantly reach for more.

I have the privilege of empowering the minds of 30 bright-eyed scholars. Every day they push themselves to learn as much as they can so they can be experts ready to change the world. At 5 and 6 years old, these scholars have so much life experience and want to share it with

My Project

In our classroom last year,my students and I engaged in designing our own space. We had flexible seats and my kinders found safe spaces to learn. Then school closures happened. We really struggled with online learning for many reasons. After talking with families and my students I learned a lot. The biggest takeaway was how do we rebuild the autonomy and independence we were seeing in the classroom at home?

The answer; FLEXIBLE SEATING at home!!!!

The school district is committed to providing my students with devices and now its time to jazz it up; lap desks so they can sit comfy during our morning meetings and headphones so maybe they can work in the living room/office with their families but still be fully engaged with singing class and science experiments( we get pretty loud in first grade)
