This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are amazing! I teach art in a low-income district where most of my students receive either free or reduced-price lunch. Many of my students have a limited foundation to the arts and have not been exposed to many artists, styles, art fundamentals. When they come to my class, they are funneling in from three different schools, with separate curricula.
I infuse them with a love for the arts by focusing on art as a form of communication between the artist and the audience, while encouraging them to find their voice.
We spend time developing their skills and techniques in order to give them confidence in using art as a vehicle for expression. My students love to question and search for answers. They are motivated and absorb information, and they continuously look for the connections between themselves and the world around them.
My Project
My students are stars! They are amazing kids that are ready to put all of their creativity to work. They adapted to our virtual learning so quickly, it's hard for me to keep up. After they complete one art project they are eagerly anticipating the directions for the next one. Since our students are learning from home, making sure they have what they need is a challenge. Most of my students are not able to fund their own supplies and most of their experience in art comes from what is provided by the school. Although funds and opportunities to create art are limited, I work hard to find resources for them as much as possible. Art is more important now than ever before as it gives my students the outlet to express themselves. By supporting our classroom you are giving my students this opportunity.
