This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in an urban setting where 95% of the students are socioeconomically disadvantaged. This year I have about 10 SPED students who love learning, but need extra attention and a comfortable environment to work in.

Majority of my students are diagnosed with ADHD or other health impairments.

My students are sweet and want to do their best and sometimes it takes them longer to concentrate or focus in a traditional classroom. Help me make our classroom one the students feel comfortable in.

My Project

The Home Economics Club will teach fundamental life skills that will provide students with confidence, empowerment, and responsibility.

Students will learn the following skills: cooking, baking, gardening, sewing, financial literacy, respect, and manners.

By providing this club to our students, they will have the opportunity to practice and learn math skills, design, food sustainability, and making decisions on our environment.

What students will accomplish by being part of the D. Home Economic Club:

1. Basic fundamental cooking and baking skills while also learning about nutrition.

2. Basic gardening skills to help beautify our school

3. Basic sewing skills and completing a project by the end of the year

4. Students will apply real life knowledge and skills pertaining to financial literacy, i.e., practice opening a bank account and creating a monthly budget.
