This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 5th grade in a low income area in San Diego County. My students often do not have stable environments at home, but despite these struggles they come to school with a positive attitude. They inspire me to work hard every day. Education has the power to make their all dreams possible and I want to do whatever I can to help bridge their educational gaps and challenge those who are ready for more. Please donate and help make these dreams a reality.

My Project

One of my favorite things about teaching is sharing my love for reading. I remember being fully immersed in this book as a child and I’d love to share that with my fifth graders. Holes is engaging with its alluring oddity which tends to hooks young minds. I think it will bring up a lot of great discussion points as well. I love that there is a movie to pair at the end as well. I love to hear kids say, “the book was so much better!” It’s always fun listing the similarities and differences. It opens students eyes up that great story telling starts with books. My district is currently on a spending freeze due to a several million dollar deficit, so using my vanishing classroom funds for this book is not an option this year. Please help support new literacy in my classroom.
