This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a group of 30 4th and 5th graders in a lower-income part of East San Diego County. My students are resilient and face every challenge they meet head on. They are positive role models who want to make changes in the world for the better.

This year, we are working on growth mindset and project-based learning.

I want my students to have opportunities to explore the content in new ways and present it to their peers not just at our school, but around the world.

My Project

This year, we are reading chapter books and deeply exploring Literature to meet the CCSS. My students will read the novel, Holes, in groups during Literature Circles. They will explore themes of friendship found throughout the novel. They will have group discussions to answer complex questions to uncover the theme, author's point of view, and purpose. The clipboards will help students work while moving around the classroom. The colored paper will be used for book reviews, articles, and projects.

The books and supplies will be especially beneficial to my students so they can boost their creativity and critical thinking skills.

I am currently working on obtaining my Master's Degree in Elementary Education, so it has been challenging for me to provide additional resources that my district will not supply for me.
