Holding the Ideas We Imagine

Help me give my students a 3D printer, thermal tent, and filament so they can actually hold and touch the ideas they dream and design.

My Students

I teach approximately 50 third through fifth grade children. My students are very diverse, but they are all extremely creative, innovative, and love to explore new ideas and concepts.

In our classroom, my students learn that in order to be truly innovative, they must be willing to take risks that may involve failure.

They also learn that experiences that begin with failure are simply opportunities from which to learn and become successful. They are transforming into lifelong learners that are not afraid to explore, improve, and reinvent the world around them.

My Project

We need a reliable, student friendly 3D printer in our classroom. My students love to imagine and design new ideas and objects with an online CAD software program called Tinkercad. The challenge of being able to conceptualize, visualize, and design is such great exercise for their growing minds. Being able to understand spatially how things fit together, attend to the details required when using CAD software, and visualize the ratios of sizes when creating are just a few of the skills they learn with this software.

Give my students the opportunity to actually print, hold, and touch their designs by helping us get a 3D printer, thermal tent, and filament.

My students have used our current 3D printer so much over the last five years that they have actually worn it out. It no longer produces reliable prints and is constantly requiring maintenance. This new printer will allow them the opportunity to print reliable copies of their designs as soon as they create them.
