Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are interested in the world around them. They are city kids with a keen interest in learning new things. They love to explore, to write, to build, and to read. As the ELD teacher for kindergarten and first grade, I spend my time pushing into classrooms to teach English language learners.
My students come from an impoverished background, but they also have strong family ties and parents who want the best for them.
Our school is very large and with the latest state budget cuts, our class will be much larger than normal. This won't stop us from becoming a school family looking out for each other and learning everything we can in these first pivotal years of school.
My Project
Students are bringing a dual language immersion program. Our school has plenty of supplies in English, but our Spanish students will learn to read in their home language. These alphabet books and language cards will be used in bilingual centers when we are back in hybrid. They will be modeled in virtual learning in zoom classes. Students will be exposed to both languages and opportunities to communicate in both languages will be plenty. These cards with colorful pictures are just what we need in our first year of two way.
