This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine being 6 years old and having to spend the majority of your school day sitting in a chair. It's hard to do! My first graders have limitless amounts of energy and are constantly in motion. They kneel, squat, sit cross-legged, and rock in their chairs all day long.

I have 22 enthusiastic and creative first grade students.

I have several students in my class who also have various special needs, and these chairs would be so beneficial to them. They love coming to school and are eager to learn. Our school includes students from pre-k to eighth grade. It is a Title I school, which means that many of my students' families are living below the poverty line.

My Project

Hokki stools are fun colored, durable plastic stools with a slightly rounded base. The rounded base allows for (and encourages!) "active seating"...yes, I want my students to wiggle and rock a little in their seats. The stools also have padding on the bottom that helps prevent them from slipping. Our current classroom chairs are hard plastic and are uncomfortable to sit on for long periods of time. My students have a lot of energy and are constantly moving around in their seats. As a result, they regularly fall out of and knock over their chairs. Hokki stools will not only be more comfortable and allow my students to get rid of their excess energy, but they will be much safer than our classroom chairs because they are designed to be very difficult to knock over. Hokki stools will allow my students to safely get their wiggles out, which in turn, will help them to concentrate more on their learning.

Please help my students keep their minds and bodies flowing as they focus and learn about the world around them.

These stools will provide my students a safe place to sit and move without disrupting the rest of the class. Thank you for your consideration.
