Hokki Pokki To Get The Wiggles Out

My students need two Hokki stools.

My Students

My students are wigglers. I have four who fall out of their chairs. Some of my desks are on tile, some of my desks are on carpet. Doesn't seem to matter where the desk is located, wigglers fall. I have wigglers every year, and I try to keep them as active as possible.

Our school is a K-8 rural school in central California with a student population of 500.

We have over 50% of our children on free and reduced-price lunch. We have no immediate buildings around our campus. We are surrounded by woods and cow fields. All the students must ride the bus to come to school. Our student population is predominantly white with less than 20% ESL. Of those students most are Hispanic. Our students work hard and continue to strive for success.

My Project

I am requesting two Hokki stools. Research has shown that you need to keep some students more active than others. Whether a student has a large need or a small need to move around, the Hokki stools will allow my students to channel their energy into movement and then focus more on group or seat work when the time is appropriate. The Hokki stool will also strengthen core muscles. Again research has changed in the last few decades. A strong core will serve you well through your entire life.

With more concentration comes more learning.

With more learning comes more confidence. With more confidence comes more self-esteem. With more self-esteem students feel able to conquer the next challenge in life. My goal as a teacher is to assist students in becoming good citizens. I am never sure exactly what each student needs, but I seek it out. For some it might be as simple as an extra 10 minutes a day of concentration.
