My students need a variety of things for our classroom that will enhance our learning centers. These items include a writing workshop center, word chunk puzzles, etc.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Please help us get a variety of things that will enhance our learning during centers.
I currently teach first grade on the Southside of Chicago.
I have 29 students enrolled in my classroom. The students mostly come from low-income homes and according to the Illinois State Board of Education 98% of the students were low-income students in 2009-2010.
My Project
Learning centers are independent stations set up throughout the classroom where children can go to actually engage in some learning activity. These centers are GREAT because they provide children with opportunities for hands-on learning, cooperative learning, social interaction, real-life problem solving, autonomous learning, and open-ended activities. All of my students are English Language Learners (ELLS), which means that they speak a second language at home that is not English so they benefit greatly from learning centers.
We are requesting several items to enhance our learning centers such as a writing center where we can explore writing stories, poems and letters. We are also requesting a roll a poster box where we can store our class made posters that showcase our funny stories, poems or sight words. We are also requesting two phonics puzzles: easy to read words and word chunks.
With your generosity, you can provide low-income students with a chance at a quality education that will help them gain valuable literacy skills.
Reading can unlock many doors for my first graders and give them opportunities for a bright future.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
