My Project
After Covid, today's students struggle to focus. They want quick fixes, and quick assignments, and they are missing out on a lot of the great things you can learn in the classroom. Thankfully this year, my school district is making a much needed change in the cell phone policy, and students will no longer be able to have phones or wireless earbuds in class. This means, however, that students won't be able to listen to audiobooks and instructional videos unless they have wired headphones, something that not all of my students can afford.
Also, even as sophomores in high school, they love nothing more than art, and making posters related to the books we are reading really helps students to connect with literature, something that is becoming more rare.
Last year, we read The Hobbit, which was a hit with the students, but students had to purchase their own copy of the book, which was not feasible for my students and their socioeconomic status. Having more copies of the book available in class for students means that more students will be able to enjoy the book!
