This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Hello and thank you so much for taking the time to read about my students. The fact that you are even here and care to help our future leaders means more to me than I can put into words.

Next year will be my first year teaching 11th Grade US History and I could not be more thrilled!

I teach at a High School in Homestead, Florida, and we have many at-risk and disadvantaged students and families. I want to support all of my students when it comes to college and career reediness. I am saddened to say that many students do not feel that college is an option- or even accessible to them.

My school will be using a new program called AVID and I am proud to say that I have been selected as the AVID champion for my high school. The program focuses on preparing students for college and requires certain teaching materials. I have visited schools using this program and have been so inspired. I would love for my classroom to be a model for this program. The easels will be used for student-centered learning where each group will have an easel and be able to use their creativity to collaborate, learn, grow, and succeed.
