This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
HISTORY IN YOUR FACE! Even though New York City is filled with different cultures, most students do not venture outside their neighborhoods to see the rich diversity that surrounds them. Students have always had to learn history through a textbook which is filled with one sided information and lacks the personal struggle and emotion of each event. I work hard to bring history alive in my classroom of special need high school students.
The students respond well to all visuals, mostly because they are visual learners and because their reading level is low. The ability to show different examples of history to them gets their minds working and thinking, and it is always hard to do this when I lack the technology. It is difficult to not be able to show the students information when their curiosity takes them to the next level and I am not prepared because I lack the projector to show them.
If I had a projector, there would be endless places I could go with my students. Visuals, answers and sounds could engulf them and make them feel as though they are actually there. A projector would give me the ability to bring history to life. This is something that I can use everyday and students would never need to be off daydreaming because they would be involved and SEE history in their face!
Your help will ensure that my students will have the ability to get more involved in the classroom and actually become a part of history by seeing it. Without your help, my classroom will be a struggle to get students involved, because they will have to read it on paper, and see only in black and white. Students should have the opportunity to actually understand history, and with your donation you will make this possible!
