"The whole course of human history may depend on a change of heart in one solitary and even humble individual, for it is in the solitary mind and soul of the individual that the battle between good and evil is waged and ultimately won or lost." M. Scott Peck
My students are elementary and middle school students identified as having a learning disability, cognitive disability, and/or an emotional disorder.
These students are in grades 3 through 8 and attend social studies in a small group, instructional setting using a modified social studies curriculum. My school is located on the south side of Chicago in an areas with a declining population.
My Project
Students in my class will have access to a curriculum that will be more accessible to them. This Cicero curriculum provides text to speech for students who struggle with reading texts, connects to other content areas, and incorporates multiple learning styles. Students will have daily access to IPAD's and incorporate technology into the learning process on a more consistent basis. This Cicero curriculum focuses on United States history from 600 B.C. to the present and allows students to engage with and learn about the United States in a more exciting manner: NO TEXTBOOKS!
Donations for this project will provide more engaging learning experiences with a social studies curriculum.
Students will have an opportunity to learn in a way that aligns to their learning styles and provides access to text without the struggles associated with reading difficulties.
