Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a history teacher, I strive to make the past feel alive, engaging, and meaningful for all students. To take our learning beyond the textbook, I’m creating a History Book Nook — a cozy, inviting space in the classroom filled with age-appropriate, diverse, and thought-provoking historical books.
This book nook will include biographies, historical fiction, graphic novels, primary source collections, and culturally rich narratives from across the globe and throughout time.
It will serve not only as a quiet reading corner but as a launchpad for student curiosity, supporting independent learning, extra credit projects, early finisher exploration, and research inspiration.
From the struggles of enslaved individuals to the triumphs of civil rights leaders, from revolutionary rebels to global changemakers — this nook will help students connect with history in deeply personal and powerful ways. It will also highlight underrepresented voices often overlooked in traditional curriculums, helping foster empathy, critical thinking, and a more inclusive understanding of the world.
