This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Remember the struggles of trying to understand World and US history? Now imagine trying to do so in a language that is foreign to you and about a country you just migrated to. These are some of the challenges facing my ESL students. For these reasons, they need adapted books and resources.

My students are as unique and incredible as their journeys that brought them to the United States.

My classroom is truly a melting pot, as it is represented by a diverse group of languages and cultures from around the world. My students are mostly bilingual, but some are multilingual as well. They all work hard to be academically successful, and all have outside responsibilities, including extracurricular groups, sports, help raising siblings or jobs to support their family economically as well.

My Project

My classroom is colorful, one of the most colorful in the school. I have it this way to engage my students and to encourage learning. I give a lot of projects and those projects often draw the attention of teachers and students from around the school. The requested resources would all be used in this fashion - they would enable further learning, and facilitate a deeper understanding of English and history to allow for the creation of more projects. Projects are a great way for my students to demonstrate, both visibly and orally, their understanding of the subject.

The donations will allow us to buy a classroom set of the "If You Lived When ..." history series, which provides a first-person glimpse into historical periods.

This is very helpful because it provides a greater depth of information than our current history text. The donations will also support the purchase of items such as hole punchers and vocabulary cards, which are used every day.
