My Project
I have two 7th grade, small-group classes next quarter that I hope to do an in depth book study with. Your donation is most appreciated as the hardest part in a book study is getting a copy of the book in each student's hand.
The unit will blend historical content with literary devices such as figurative language, allegory, symbolism, and characterization, as well as, considering if themes have any connection to the real world or other historical eras.
Students will learn history related to the Bolshevik Revolution, Soviet Union, Communism, and Socialism. As well as a literacy focus in reading skills and writing skills. The reading will also be paired with informational texts for students to compare and contrast.
As a final product, students will write or create a literary analysis essay/presentation. This will cover one of the topics we learned during the unit. With multiple topics, activities, and supports in this study, every student will have access to the story, opportunity to respond, and rigor that pushes them to the next level of their academic journey.
We plan to offer this unit at least once every year with the possibility of twice a year. This would serve 30 to 60 students. The books will also be available for book club options in other Language Arts classes to reach students not in the small group class.
