I love that my students are eager to learn. They are highly motivated and show up to United States History class every day. The current textbook is old and I find that I'm spending a lot of time searching for engaging lessons online. Many of these lessons have been created by teachers for teachers and not by textbook companies with "educational specialists" that have never been in a classroom.
I want to increase student engagement in my lessons by purchasing a curriculum that is hands-on and project-based and that asks students to think critically about their learning.
I am finding a lot of material on the Teachers Pay Teacher website and I would like to purchase them for my classroom. I would also like to purchase books from Amazon that tell an alternative version of history to the dominant narrative and that will help me teach students the necessary skills to think critically about history and their own stories. These resources will help plan engaging activities such as gallery walks and thesis writing on historical debates in US history on ethical and moral choices made by presidents and other leading figures such as the decisions to intern Japanese Americans during World War ll. These lessons will lead up to a unit plan focused on research and writing a thesis-supported essay using primary source documents on the Civil Rights era.
