Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

At our school we like to keep Hispanic Heritage Month lasting all year long by continuously immersing our school in the rich Hispanic culture. In a school that is 12% Hispanic or Latinx and 31% African-American, celebrating diversity is an integral component in creating a community that promotes inclusion, equity and acceptance. My project is to help students as learners have access to materials which encourage diversity, inclusion and kindness as part of a school-wide service project. Students will educate each other about their cultural heritage in an inclusive way.

I hope to add more cultural experiences in our school that will promote the heritage and traditions of Spanish-speaking countries as well as encourage students of other races and ethnicities to learn about them.

This project fosters traditional educational practices by integrating posters and wall-hangings specifically with spreading knowledge about the culture around the school community. These materials are a powerful tool in enabling students to gain a better understanding of both their own culture and the cultures of others.

These posters will have common Spanish phrases on them that will help students be multilingual. This will enhance the confidence in our community of students. Additionally, I want to add banners and posters with information on all Spanish-speaking countries to integrate cultural studies and keep the Hispanic and Latino heritage alive. These posters will be integrated into our school's halls and ESOL classrooms.

Adding these powerful tools will enable our students to work together as a community to gain a better understanding of both their own culture and the cultures of others.
