My students need various fun materials like parachutes, balance boards and stilts to keep them active all day long.

My Students
My kindergarten students are curious, energetic 5 and 6 year olds. Their excitement to be attending elementary school for the first time is contagious. From their first to last day, they soak up so much learning that their academic and social growth is amazing to experience.
Our school is located in a small rural town with a close-knit community that supports our school's vision of "Creating a Community of Learners and Leaders".
Visitors to our school immediately feel the support that each member of our staff and community gives to our students.
My Project
My students favorite way to learn involves movement and play. Their love for learning shines brightly when they are jumping, throwing, running and developing their gross and fine motor skills. We incorporate movement in each academic area as well as having an additional 45 minutes of free play beyond the 25 minutes of outdoor recess each day. This project is inspired by my students who learn by doing, rather than sitting and watching. They tell me that their favorite activities each year have involved movement.
Our requested items will encourage movement throughout our day whether we are inside or outside.
The play dough materials, lacing beads, and tweezers will enhance our morning activity tubs while helping each student strengthen their fine motor skills which are needed for proper writing grasp.
When we are learning to count and read, we need even more movement. The number line, hundred chart, and alphabet mats mat will allow students to hop and move as they learn counting, letters and sounds. Sight word steps will make learning our new words exciting as they step their way through the game.
We end each day with 25 minutes of play. Adding the balance board to this time will strengthen the students' core strength while they focus on moving the ball through the maze. The stilts will teach the students coordination as they march around our classroom. The hop scotch mat will allow this game to be played indoors. The partner parachutes and big bubble set will encourage team work and body coordination when we end our day with outside play.
