This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
When you were a student, didn't you wish there was a buzzer that went off every time you got an answer correct? Hot Dots pens and materials will help with that! Sometimes students just need to know right then and there if what they're learning is accurate or inaccurate.
My classroom consists of 18 to 25 vibrant and diverse reading class and math class students.
The majority of them come from lower economic financial backgrounds with single or working parents. Their academic abilities range from a first grade level to a fourth grade level in reading, writing and math. Due to such a vast range of abilities, lower leveled students sometimes struggle to catch up and higher leveled students don't get challenged enough. The school they attend focuses heavily on school and classroom community by having a morning meeting with the entire school every morning and working in small instructional groups. My students strive to learn, but lack some of the basic skills they need in order to perform well on formal and informal tests. They enjoy working in small groups and the Hot Dots materials will be a great addition to their small group instruction. It will help my lower leveled students as well as encourage my on grade leveled students to push further.
My Project
With the help of Hot Dots pens and question cards, my students that are struggling will be able to review and reinforce skills of reading, math and science. Also, grade leveled students will be able to challenge themselves on concepts that are on grade level and beyond. The talking electronic Hot Dots pens will give instant gratification to whether the question was answered correctly or not making learning fun and engaging. Students of various levels will be able to work in small instructional groups while using the Hot Dots question sets of different subject matters. Students will learn, review, and reinforce various vocabulary words and skills pertaining to reading such as context clues, science such as force and motion, and math problem solving skills. These materials will be beneficial for test taking reinforcement, helping to close the achievement gap within my classroom, and making learning more student based.
This project will definitely bring a sense of community to our classroom by allowing all students to come together and learn.
The Hot Dots pen and question cards will make students more involved in the learning process as they self check their answers. As the pen flashes and gives positive reinforcement such as "awesome job," my students will become more confident in their learning. The ultimate goal of this donation is to create more active learners, involve all students, and reinforce skills.
