Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In elementary school, learning was colorful, and therefore fun. Older students also enjoy learning more when they have special materials to aid them. Sometimes they don't even notice that they're studying!
Students come to this high school instead of dropping out.
Our school provides a close-knit, safe environment with additional supports where at-risk students become successful despite family issues, pregnancy, addiction, chronic illnesses, and emotional trauma.
My Project
After a long, irregular, and mostly unsuccessful school histories, our students need help learning how to be good students. Identifying learning techniques that work for them, creating study habits and developing critical thinking skills is challenging and yet paramount to helping students achieve success. Highlighters are a simple, yet fun study method that helps both visual and tactile learners.
At our school, many students say, they are successful for the first time in their lives.
While they still do not enjoy studying, highlighters and sticky notes enliven the learning experience and assist the learning process.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
