My Students
My 1st grade students are making incredible progress but are about to outgrow my mostly kindergarten and early first grade leveled library. They need books at higher reading levels in order to continue to make progress throughout this school year.
My students are 1st graders who have absolutely fallen in love with reading, thanks in part to generous donations from donorschoose.org donors.
They are students with special needs from one of the highest poverty schools in Philadelphia. They have already made an average of .9 years growth in reading (in only 4 months!). I want them to continue on this track and grow 2 years in a single school year.
My Project
The more practice my students get with books on their individual reading levels, the better they will get at reading. My students are quickly going through my current book collection and will soon need more higher level books. My 3rd and 4th grade students will also benefit from this project as they are currently behind grade level and need to catch up very quickly.
My students and I have big goals for their reading levels this school year.
They need more books at the appropriate levels in order to make the major progress that I know they can. These books will add so much to my classroom and to my students' school experience.
