This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from the economically and culturally diverse small city of Hoboken. They are the highest academic need students in middle school and receive resource room services as a result of their IEPs. They are highly motivated and are eager to feel comfortable in a school setting. Many of them have learning disabilities or attention disorders that make learning core subjects in a general education classroom more difficult. As a result, they receive either push-in (I help them in their classroom) or pull-out (they receive 1:1 or small group help in another room).

Despite any documented difficulties these students may have, their motivation and optimism for the learning process drive all the teachers they encounter to be the absolute best support to their learning.

They inspire me to seek out the best supports for them, across all fields of research.

My Project

Being able to take advantage of the many webinars that have popped up during remote learning, download the latest and most effective educational programs, and connect with my students in all the ways they need support is vital to success. Having now wrapped up the 6th week of teaching remotely, I can now see where the gaps are in my personal technology. Being able to connect reliably to the internet and utilize large programs at the same time will eliminate waiting time and allow faster and more comprehensive support I can provide my students.

Outside of utilizing this laptop for use with the students, personally I can begin to develop and create materials utilizing the Apple line of products.

Creating effective, targeted modifications and accommodations for students requires use of effective technology materials. Especially when working with online curriculums and materials, this laptop will prevent any system issues or compatibility issues. To support my professional development I will be able to access webinars from professionally valid sites such as Scholastic, edWeb, Coursera, Additude Magazine, and many others. I am also pursuing an MS from Western Governers University in Educational Leadership. This program is offered 100% online and will require me to conduct the entirety of the program online. Utilizing this laptop will make that process much simpler.

Working within the framework of student services, teachers in my school very often request support with understanding how to better support the needs of their students. This laptop will allow me to create presentations, handbooks, and student facing support materials that are not only super specific to needs, but visually appealing and curriculum appropriate.
