High-School Photography Class Seeking Quality Photo/Art Books for Class Library

Help me give my students access to a quality photo book library that will provide up close and personal opportunities to study the works of world-famous photographers. To demonstrate photography as more than a skill, but an art!

My Project

Our photography program services high school students from the inner city, with a predominantly Black and Brown demographic. We have studied photography from a commercial standpoint, identifying the skill of the craft and general basis of the industry. As an extension of my desire to spark a passion for photography within my students, I have a desire to expose them to the art side of the craft.

I am seeking support to build our very own photo library of quality art photography books that will allow for a deeper study of photographic craft and techniques.

This project has been on my heart for some time now, and I truly did not know where to start. I worked with our school librarian to secure books from the library, however many of them are outdated and not relatable for our students.

The curated selection of books on this list feature some of the most notable photographers, such as: Gordon Parks, Peter Lindbergh, and Graciela Iturbide. There are many books that showcase diversity in cultural expression and photography style and it would be my honor to use these texts as a way to support literacy efforts on our campus, while driving curriculum that educates students on the wide canon of photography history.

Your support would be more than appreciated, as many of these books are too expensive to purchase on my own. I have brought many of my own personal books to start this library, and it would be a dream come true to see it expand.
