High-School Photography Class Getting Hands-On With An Age Old Craft!

My Project

Greetings!

I teach HS Photography at a historic inner city public school in Houston, TX that services predominately Black and Brown students from the local community.

I love how quickly they have adapted to digital photography and even introduced me to their modern way of doing things. It is my hope to introduce them to the origins of photography by digging into analog/film photography and alternative photographic processes.

I am requesting financial support to purchase materials needed to create cyanotype prints, image transfers using gel medium, transfers through the use of a gelli plate, and screen printing. It is my hope that by introducing more kinesthetic processes I can encourage my students to step away from the distractions of their cell phones. Our goal will be to showcase the byproducts of our projects in on campus and local gallery exhibitions.
