High School Musical: Real Life Edition

My students need a wireless microphone system for their first musical!

My Students

As the music teacher of the only non-audition based music school in New York City, I strive to give my students every opportunity. Our school was opened less than 15 years ago with the mission to give all students, regardless of their prior knowledge, an opportunity to learn and grow in the arts.

Over 95% of the students are of black or Hispanic heritage, and over 80% qualify for free or reduced-priced lunch.

Although many of our students' math and reading skills fall below grade level, they are intelligent, passionate, and all performers at heart.

My Project

Since I became working at my current school students would look at me and say, "I thought an arts high school would be so much more like High School Musical." This coming school year students will have the opportunity to perform in 2 musical events- a cabaret in the fall, and a full length musical in the spring! These will be the first musical theater performances since the founding of the school. We have a blackbox available for the performance, but no sound system.

This wireless system provides enough diversity for both our musical events this year, and will become a staple in our growing performing arts program for years to come.

This system, along with the rechargeable batteries, will last for years which means musicals, concerts, showcases, and even talent shows. Your donation will launch our school into it's first large performances at a professional level!
