High School Freshmen Positive Behavior Intervention

My Project

Our typical freshmen class is 500 students. Moving to high school can be a real challenge for freshman. They have a lot more freedom and more expectations which can be an issue, especially when it comes to attendance.

Our school utilizes Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).

It is a school-wide approach to improve school climate and student behavior by focusing on prevention, teaching, and supporting positive behaviors.

The ultimate goal of implementing PBIS data, systems, and practices is to improve outcomes. Families, students, and educators set goals and work together to achieve them. In PBIS, outcomes might include behavioral, social, emotional, and academic growth; positive school climate; or fewer office discipline referrals.

For us, we want to target positive attendance for freshmen by creating a unique space just for them. We realized that we have positive incentives for sophomores (parking/ homecoming) and juniors/ seniors (outside lunch tables/ prom/ priority parking) but we did not have any incentives for freshmen. That had to change.

Creating a space with the requested multi-game table just for them, where the criteria is coming to school may be the intervention necessary to support our freshmen students.
