My Students
Flappy Bird, Elude, and Programmr.com. are examples of different activities and games my students have studied this term. Through codecademy.com we have taught ourselves JavaScript. Not bad for a bunch of novices! Now we need some drawing tablets to take our learning to the next level.
Statistics say that we are the most diverse high school in Tacoma, Washington.
What does that mean? It means that students speak many different languages and come from homes that are from various ethnicities and cultures. Lincoln High School is economically challenged with over 80% of our students on free and reduced lunch. More importantly, we are creative, insightful, and curious. There are many of my students who don't have a computer or internet in their homes. The fact remains that we have loved learning coding and want to do and know more.
My Project
Some of my advanced programmers are writing a new portal on codecademy. They want to teach the class how to create sprites and animations, so we can actually begin the real process of game design. The tablets that we hope to acquire will help this process enormously.
These tablets are special.
There are many students in my classes who have never used one. Now, don't get me wrong, I do have many technical wizards in my classes, but you know what, the tech wizards of the class can't help without the proper tools. Once we have the proper tools, something miraculous happens. The number of technical wizards multiplies, and you can help make that happen.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
