it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students are taking on the challenge of learning from home. They live in a vibrant city yet right now their access to high-interest reading material is limited due to factors beyond their control. Reading allows us to visit unfamiliar places, see new things and engage our minds in fresh ways.
Our students are creative, curious, kind, and ambitious.
We believe they deserve a world-class education and access to excellent reading material. We also believe that a good book is not only intellectually valuable. It can also provide needed comfort during challenging times. We are committed as ever to our students and their well-being. Thank you for joining us in this work.
My Project
We are seeking to provide free, high-interest reading materials, available for pick-up during our food distribution services each Tuesday and Thursday. The texts were carefully selected to provide diverse representation and high quality narratives as well as nonfiction content. Many of the books are award winning titles, including Newberry, Coretta Scott King, and Caldecott medals.
While schools are closed, we know that books can provide more than just an education.
Books can be a comfort, an adventure, a window into countless possibilities. Giving students choice and variety in reading material provides joy and a sense of control in an otherwise challenging and uncertain time.
