This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our room has 24 curious, inquisitive, smart, and energetic students who absolutely love to read. I have to stay on my toes to continually replenish books into our classroom libraries--they simply cannot get enough of books. "When are we getting new books?" they continually ask. They love all books, but particularly non-fiction books.

100% of students at our school are eligible for the Free Lunch Program, and about 40% are identified English Language Learners.

Even so, any hardships that they might face will not impede their academic advancement.

My Project

These 18 high-interest, sports nonfiction books will be a necessary addition to our classroom library. I have many sports fanatics in my classroom; unfortunately, we have a very limited amount of sports books in our library. I have specifically selected these nonfiction texts because they are very popular among my students. I have no doubt that my students will latch on to these books the second they see them.

From Neymar to Messi to Jackie Robinson, these sports sensations make captivating topics for nonfiction books.

These are books my students will want to read.

I will use these books as Interactive Read Alouds. I will show my students how to use text structures, such as cause and effect and sequence, as a way to further their thinking. Furthermore, students will also use these texts to read independently during Readers' Workshop. Students will also have permission to take these books home to read as well.
