This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In my fifth and sixth grade classroom, I want to cultivate a love of reading for all students. My students get to choose just-right books that they have time to read independently every day in my class. I encourage students to find books that interest them and that they find joy in reading. Many of my students this year love sports. They love watching and playing everything from basketball to soccer to swimming. Currently, I only have one small shelf of fiction chapter books with characters who play sports. These books also do not represent a wide range of sports. Our class is in need of a more vast and a more diverse sports section.

By donating to this project, you will help provide high-interest, fiction chapter books that my students will be excited to read!

My 100+ fifth and sixth graders will love getting their hands on these fiction books where the main character plays one of the sports my students also love. When students can find characters that they can relate to, they are much more likely to enjoy the book. Thank you for helping create a love of reading in my classroom!
