High Interest Reading

My students need 20 copies of The Darkest Minds, a high interest level Young Adult novel to be read by students who have failed an English class at least once.

My Students

My students come from a rural environment with less accessible opportunities than others. They come from backgrounds of high poverty, high homelessness, and broken homes.

For a lot of them, school is a place of sanctuary.

More than anything, my students just want to know someone cares about them. I work hard to provide the reassurances they need to be successful in school. Even with their disadvantages, they still deserve every opportunity we can give them to become thriving citizens in today's world.

My Project

The juniors and seniors in my class have failed at least one English class. A common reason for these failures is the outdated material that kids don't find interesting. They don't like to read and they certainty don't like to read material that they can't identify with.

Your generous donation will provide my students with 20 copies of Alexandra Bracken's The Darkest Minds.

This contemporary young adult novel published in 2012 will grab the attention of my students. I hope to cultivate a love of reading in these kids by providing them with high interest level reading. I also want to do what is best for my students and help them be successful in this English class.
