My students need NEW high interest books like "The Bully", "Nate the Great", and "39 Clues" to keep them interested in our library as we move to 5th grade together as a classroom family.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Before you walk into my school, you may see on paper that we are a Title I school with a majority of students receiving free or reduced lunch.
We've struggled through Hurricane Harvey and have limited resources for our students.
However, what you will see in person is a dynamic group of young, driven leaders, who through "The Leader in Me" Process are making their mark in our world. We are a Lighthouse Leader in Me/Magnet Fine Arts school, which has helped transform all of our students into global thinkers who believe they have a chance in life.
My Project
These materials will make a HUGE difference in our classroom home. Last year, my students struggled finding high interest books on their reading level. Many of them wanted graphic novels, but I only had a few and those few were a first grade level. My students didn't have any interest in many of the other books in my library.
As we transition to fifth grade together as a class, I want my students to be excited to be together again and even more excited about the NEW books like "The Bully", "Nate the Great", and "39 Clues" that will be in the library.
Many of my higher level students want to push themselves this coming school year through reading high level literature. I really want them to be excited about our library and excited to visit the library. I truly CANNOT wait to tell them how many new books are in their new library and new grade level!!
